The Goals of the Prince Edward County Middle School Counseling Program Are:

To assist students with educational, personal, career, and goal planning.
To develop personalized programs based on each student’s strengths and needs.
To help students understand themselves and others.
To assist students in identifying and dealing with problems.
To provide crisis intervention when necessary.
To coordinate referrals to school and community support services.
To serve as a resource to students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

MISSION

The mission of the school counseling program of Prince Edward County Public Schools is to provide a comprehensive and developmental counseling program. School counselors are advocates who provide support to maximize all students’ potential and academic/career and personal/social achievement. The school counseling program works with faculty and staff, parents and students, and partners within the community.

PHILOSOPHY

Prince Edward County Public Schools K-12 school counseling program has adapted the(ASCA)
American School Counselor Association National model as the framework for developing a school counseling program. Our program consists of the following services designed to serve all students:

Individual Student Planning- School counselors work with K-12 students to identify short and long-term academic, personal-social, and college and career goals.
Responsive Services- School counselors are able to provide assistance to students and schools in moments of need through individual and group and/or classroom lessons.
Consultation- The school counselor is available to parents, teachers, and other educational professionals to discuss student concerns and develop pro-active plans for student achievement.
