Prince Edward County, VA β Prince Edward County Public Schools (PECPS) is proud to announce that we have been honored with the Healthy Meals Incentives Small and/or Rural SFA Lunch Trailblazer Award, presented by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service in collaboration with Action for Healthy Kids.
This prestigious award recognizes school districts that have made exceptional improvements to the nutritional quality of their school meals. Over the past 12 months, PECPS has taken bold and proactive steps to transform our lunch menus, setting a new standard for excellence in school nutrition.
We have focused our efforts on three key strategies:
Incorporating fresh, high-quality proteins
Increasing the use of locally grown produce
Minimizing processed, high-sodium ingredients
These changes align with the forthcoming federal sodium reduction targets and demonstrate our commitment to student health and well-being.
The Healthy Meals Incentives Awards highlight innovative practices, student and community engagement, and successful strategies used by schools across the country to serve meals that support the 2020β2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. PECPS is proud to be recognized as a leader in this movement toward healthier, more nutritious school meals.
This achievement would not have been possible without the leadership and dedication of:
Chontrese Haskins, Elementary School Manager
Rosa Osborne, Middle School Manager
NaTasha Clark, High School Manager
Bruce Davis, Supervisor of Food Services/Chef
These individuals were recognized for their contributions at the August 6 School Board meeting.
