Prince Edward County Middle School students are honoring Hispanic Heritage Month with a variety of hands-on projects and cultural learning experiences that highlight the Students explored the importance of corn as a staple food in Central American countries by preparing tortillas using corn flour. They also learned about cultural celebrations by making piñatas, which are traditionally used during birthdays and other festive occasions.

In addition, students participated in a tie-dye project using inspiration from "añil," a plant native to El Salvador that is used to naturally dye clothes and has played an important role in the country’s economy.

One of the highlights of the celebration was a live video call with students from a school in El Salvador. During the exchange, students discussed how Independence Day is celebrated there and shared insights into their daily lives and culture.

These activities allowed Prince Edward County Middle School students to deepen their understanding of Hispanic heritage through authentic, interactive experiences that connect classroom learning to real-world culture and traditions.
