Prince Edward County Public Schools is proud to recognize the extraordinary contributions of two legendary educators and coaches whose dedication has left a lasting impact on generations of students, athletes, and families.
As part of this recognition, PECPS will host two special naming ceremonies on separate dates to honor Coach James Scott and Coach James Baker for their decades of service to Prince Edward County Public Schools.
Coach James Scott retired in June 2020 after 40 years of service to the division. During his distinguished career, he spent 38 years coaching the boys' varsity basketball team. His commitment to student-athletes and the school community was recognized by the Prince Edward County School Board through a resolution presented at its August meeting.
To commemorate his legacy, the Prince Edward County Middle School gym floor will be dedicated in his honor.
Coach James Baker retired in June 2024 after an impressive 47 years of service. In October 2017, he received the Virginia High School League (VHSL) Regional Award of Merit for Coaches in recognition of 40 years of coaching excellence. Throughout his career, Coach Baker inspired countless students and athletes through his leadership, dedication, and commitment to excellence. The Prince Edward County School Board recognized his commitment to student-athletes and the school community through a resolution presented at its August meeting.
The Prince Edward County High School track will be dedicated in his honor during a separate naming ceremony.
PECPS invites students, staff, families, alumni, and community members to share memories, stories, and reflections celebrating Coach Scott and Coach Baker. Whether it is a special moment, a lesson learned, or the impact these coaches had on your life, your contributions will help preserve their legacies for future generations.
All submissions will be compiled into commemorative books that will be presented during the respective naming ceremonies. Community members may submit their memories through the designated Google Form.
