Prince Edward County Public Schools (PECPS) is proud to announce that the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) has officially released the division from state oversight, marking a significant milestone in the division's ongoing commitment to student success and academic improvement.

The release follows more than six years of dedicated work by educators, students, families, staff, and community partners. During this time, PECPS worked closely with VDOE under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that outlined specific plans and strategies to improve school performance and student outcomes.

"Today is an incredibly proud day for our entire school community," said Superintendent Dr. Chip Jones. "Being released from state oversight is a monumental milestone that reflects how far we have come. While we celebrate this achievement, we recognize that our work is not finished. We must continue building on this momentum, maintaining our independence, and ensuring every student receives the high-quality education they deserve."

PECPS remains committed to continuous improvement and academic excellence as it enters this next chapter. To read the full Virginia Department of Education announcement, visit the link below.
